Hannah Souter

Whilst studying Goldsmithing, Silversmithing and Jewellery Design at Kent Institute of Art and Design, Hannah found that her work was strongly influenced by her love of organic forms. After graduating with a first class honours degree she continued to develop this theme on a post-graduate residency at Bishopsland Workshops, Reading. The residency allowed her to explore and experiment further the three dimensional qualities of jewellery that interest her most: shape and texture. In 2003 Hannah moved back to Cambridgeshire where she set up her own workshop, supplying many galleries and developing work for exhibitions and craft fairs.

Inspired by the surrounding Cambridgeshire countryside Hannah creates jewellery that reflects the beauty and delicate structures found in nature. The smooth rounded shapes and textured surfaces create a tactile quality that makes each piece unique. Working in precious metals, Hannah’s jewellery comprises of combines of hand press formed and individually fabricated units combined with subtle surface textures and contrasting finishes. Much of her work incorporates pierced holes allowing pieces to be looked into or through thus encouraging interaction with the wearer or observer.
